You may have dabbled in exercise off and on for years. Or perhaps you are a fitness devotee and thoroughly appreciate the value of quality exercise equipment. In fact, you may have made purchases of less than stellar equipment, which resulted in your disappointment. For the sometimes exerciser to the dedicated fitness buff, the purchase of commercial gym equipment is something that should be seriously considered.
More and more home gyms are being outfitted with commercial equipment – the same equipment found in professional gyms and fitness centers. You might wonder if paying for this kind of equipment makes financial sense, but if you have ever endured the frustration caused by the break down of inferior, cheap machines, you may begin to easily justify the expense.
Furthermore, even professional equipment with high consumer ratings doesn’t have to break the bank. One of the indirect results of the boom in large fitness centers across the country is the variety of equipment that has become available for resale. Many large commercial exercise locations update their equipment as often as every two to three years. The “old” equipment is frequently sold to businesses that specialize in the sale of used fitness equipment. These businesses then refurbish or recondition the “old” equipment and make it available to the individual or the smaller boutique gyms.
A fine piece of cardio commercial equipment that originally sold for $5000 to $6,000 can often be purchased for as little as 15-20 percent of the original cost. You should be careful to make sure that you are purchasing gym equipment that has been thoroughly serviced and not just cleaned up. Remember, you will have to tread a little lightly when you enter the world of uses workout equipment. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and request warranties, no matter how limited.
Another place to find nearly new commercial gym equipment is in the internet classifieds. Some of the name brand equipment like Star Trac, Cybex and Precor can be found for rock bottom prices. Likewise, if you are fortunate, you can find something that has been used for very few total hours. With treadmills, rowing machines, elliptical machines and the like you should give them a good trial before sinking money into them regardless of how inexpensive they may seem.
The commercial weight equipment is less risky to buy in used condition. Even some of the more sophisticated pieces have retained fairly simple operating mechanisms. Your only real potential concern is whether or not replacement parts are available. Thankfully there are plenty of internet sites that are dedicated to selling parts for most of the brand names commonly found in fitness centers.
In review, commercial gym equipment is a great idea not only for the gym, but for the home as well. Do your due diligence and research all the bargain options out there. Don’t go through the endless cycle of replacing cheap fitness equipment. Instead, buy commercial equipment and let it work for you not against you.
